Türkiye and Indonesia are strengthening their defense and security ties through a new phase of strategic cooperation. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Jakarta, Talip Küçükcan, met with Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to review existing projects and discuss expanding collaboration under the “Strategic Defense Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding” signed on February 12. The talks focused on practical steps for the MoU’s implementation and Türkiye’s potential contribution to the modernization of Indonesia’s military inventory.
Ambassador Küçükcan emphasized that during the Türkiye–Indonesia Business Forum, Turkish defense giants ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, Baykar, and TAİS signed comprehensive cooperation agreements involving technology transfer and joint production with their Indonesian counterparts. He also noted that TUSAŞ (Turkish Aerospace) continues its activities in Indonesia through its subsidiary in Bandung, highlighting the growing industrial footprint of Turkish defense firms in the region.
The discussions also addressed defense education and training cooperation. Plans are underway to establish institutional collaboration between the Indonesian Defense University and Türkiye’s National Defense University, including joint academic programs, training exchanges, and curriculum sharing. Ambassador Küçükcan added that Türkiye welcomes the participation of high-ranking Indonesian military officers in defense education and training programs organized in Türkiye.
Minister Sjamsoeddin affirmed that the implementation of the Strategic Cooperation MoU would be closely monitored and confirmed his participation as a keynote speaker at the upcoming “Indo Defense 2025” exhibition in Jakarta — an event that will coincide with the 75th anniversary of Türkiye–Indonesia diplomatic relations.
The meeting underscored Minister Sjamsoeddin’s keen interest in Türkiye’s defense industry advancements and his commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation. As both nations enhance collaboration in fields such as aerospace, electronic warfare, naval systems, and smart munitions, their defense partnership is evolving into a long-term, multidimensional alliance that promises strategic benefits for both sides.
