Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) President Haluk Görgün highlighted Türkiye’s remarkable progress in the defense sector during his speech at the 6th Productivity and Technology Fair in Ankara. Görgün stated that Türkiye now has the capacity to meet its defense needs across a wide spectrum—from ships to helicopters, armored vehicles to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)—through domestic and national capabilities. He particularly stressed the importance of R&D investments, noting that while Türkiye’s defense R&D spending was only 50 million dollars in 2002, it has now surpassed 2 billion dollars.
Görgün underlined that the defense industry is not limited to military production alone but also contributes significantly to the country’s growth by strengthening its scientific, technological, and innovative capacities. He noted that Türkiye has developed world-class products in fields such as electronic warfare, satellite communication systems, and advanced engineering solutions, emphasizing that these successes were the result of precise process management and deep technological research.
Furthermore, Görgün explained that Türkiye’s vision for its defense industry goes beyond meeting national security requirements. The aim is to build innovative, competitive technologies that position Türkiye as a global brand serving peace and stability. With this vision, projects being developed today not only enhance national security but also lay the foundation for future technological superiority and global competitiveness.
In conclusion, Türkiye’s achievement in reaching a high level of domestic and national capability in defense is not only a strategic move but also a reflection of the country’s growing capacity in science, technology, and innovation, ensuring a stronger foundation for the future.
