NATO’s largest and most comprehensive live exercise of 2026, “Steadfast Dart 2026,” continues under the coordination of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, with Germany serving as host nation. The land phase of the exercise was conducted at the Bergen training area near Hannover, where distinguished visitors and media representatives observed allied ground forces in action.
During the land component of the exercise, the Turkish Armed Forces deployed the 66th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, supported by an artillery battery, engineer combat direct support units, and a field company. As part of NATO’s Allied Reaction Force (ARF), the brigade—recognized as one of the elite and well-equipped formations of the Turkish Land Forces Command—successfully executed coordinated operations alongside Italian mechanized units. According to the exercise scenario, the forces carried out joint maneuvers to seize enemy-controlled territory and establish area security. Live-fire drills and synchronized air-land operations were conducted to test interoperability and rapid deployment capabilities.
The primary objectives of Steadfast Dart 2026 include enhancing allied joint operational capability, validating command-and-control mechanisms, and testing the rapid deployment and sustainment of high-readiness forces. With participation from more than ten allied nations, including Türkiye, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Czechia, the exercise aims to strengthen NATO’s deterrence posture and collective defense readiness across multiple operational domains.
Following the operational phase, participating nations displayed the equipment and systems used during the drills. Türkiye showcased several domestically developed defense platforms currently in service with the Turkish Armed Forces, including the Kirpi 2 and Vuran armored vehicles, the Çakı tactical vehicle, the Boran 105mm towed howitzer, the Fırtına self-propelled howitzer, the Sungur man-portable air defense system, and the Aslan unmanned ground vehicle produced by ASELSAN. First Lieutenant Recep Yortanlı from the 66th Mechanized Infantry Brigade emphasized that the use of indigenous systems during the exercise not only enhanced operational effectiveness but also facilitated valuable knowledge exchange with allied nations.
Steadfast Dart 2026 once again highlighted Türkiye’s active role within NATO operations and demonstrated the growing operational maturity and battlefield reliability of its domestic defense industry products.
