BREAKING NEWS
Turkey’s defense industry is rapidly advancing its cruise missile capabilities, marking a major leap toward strategic independence. With systems like SOM, Çakır, Atmaca, and Kemankeş, Ankara aims to establish dominance in long-range precision strike technologies, both in the air and on the ground. These missiles are not only designed for powerful offensive capabilities but also serve as a cornerstone for national deterrence and technological sovereignty.
One of the most innovative developments is Kemankeş, an AI-powered mini cruise missile developed by Baykar. This smart munition stands out with its low radar signature, autonomous flight capability, and swarm-attack potential. While Kemankeş-1 is launched from air platforms, Kemankeş-2 can be fired from land-based vehicles, allowing rapid deployment and flexible operational use. Defense analyst Ahmet Alemdar suggests that in the near future, a naval version of Kemankeş might also emerge.
Meanwhile, ROKETSAN’s Çakır and TÜBİTAK SAGE’s SOM missiles continue to strengthen Turkey’s precision-strike capabilities. The Atmaca anti-ship missile has already proven its effectiveness in naval operations, while the long-range Gezgin project remains under tight secrecy, hinting at a strategic capability comparable to global cruise missile systems.
These programs collectively demonstrate the maturity of Turkish defense engineering and the country’s growing influence in global defense markets. As these missiles enter active service, the Turkish Armed Forces will gain an unprecedented advantage in precision strikes and battlefield flexibility.
