Türkiye’s defense industry has unveiled another innovative weapon system with the development of the METE laser-guided mini missile. Currently in testing stages, METE was introduced to the public by Defense Industries President İsmail Demir through his social media announcement. Designed by ROKETSAN, METE is optimized for use on modern platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), offering a versatile solution for future battlefields.
One of METE’s most striking features is its high-precision laser guidance system, which ensures direct hits on targets. This accuracy was symbolically compared to Olympic champion archer Mete Gazoz’s ability to strike the bullseye, giving the missile both a technological and symbolic significance. A video shared by Demir showcased successful test firings of METE and detailed its technical specifications, demonstrating the progress achieved in its development.
Another advantage of METE is its ability to be fired from portable grenade launchers operated by a single soldier. This capability provides significant operational flexibility, especially in scenarios requiring rapid response. Its lightweight structure combined with pinpoint accuracy makes METE a powerful tool for tactical missions and asymmetric warfare situations.
As a product of Türkiye’s independent defense technology vision, METE is expected to greatly enhance the country’s military capabilities once operational. Beyond strengthening national security, METE also carries strong export potential, positioning Türkiye as an increasingly competitive player in the global defense industry.
