BREAKING NEWS
One of Türkiye’s leading defense industry companies, ROKETSAN, continues to expand its capabilities in laser and directed energy weapons through international collaborations. During the World Defense Show held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, ROKETSAN signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Australian defense firm Electro Optic Systems (EOS). The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for jointly developing laser weapon technologies and addressing future customer requirements on a global scale.
The cooperation focuses primarily on laser weapon systems, an area in which ROKETSAN has developed significant expertise in recent years. At the center of these capabilities is the ALKA Directed Energy Weapon System, which combines electromagnetic jamming and laser technologies to counter asymmetric threats. ALKA stands out as an effective solution against low-altitude aerial threats, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and FPV drones, which have become increasingly prominent on modern battlefields.
ALKA, which entered mass production in 2023, is currently the only operational energy weapon system in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces. The system plays a critical role in protecting key military installations and strategic government facilities. Through the newly signed agreement with EOS, it is aimed to further enhance ALKA’s capabilities and develop new configurations tailored to evolving operational needs.
ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İkinci emphasized that the cooperation with EOS will significantly contribute not only to Türkiye’s defense capacity but also to that of friendly and allied nations. He stated that the agreement would increase the operational efficiency and mission success of ROKETSAN’s proven directed energy weapon solutions, adding that the company aims to become one of the world’s leading players in laser weapon systems.
Within the scope of the partnership, the two companies will work together on solutions required for counter-drone systems, force protection, and the security of critical infrastructure. By combining ROKETSAN’s extensive experience in system integration, command-and-control, sensors, and advanced manufacturing infrastructure with EOS’s electro-optical expertise, the collaboration is expected to deliver competitive and high-value solutions for the global defense market.
