BREAKING NEWS
HÜRJET, Turkey’s first indigenously developed supersonic jet trainer, continues to advance confidently through its development and testing phases. Under the coordination of the Presidency of Defence Industries and produced by Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ), the program is progressing with two flying prototypes, which have so far completed 340 sorties, accumulating approximately 260 flight hours. These achievements highlight the aircraft’s rapid maturation toward full operational capability.
Mass production activities are also moving forward as planned. Preparations for the 2026 delivery schedule to the Turkish Stars aerobatic team remain on track. While assembly operations for the first aircraft continue, the program targets the first flights of newly produced jets in the first quarter of 2025. Starting in 2017, the HÜRJET project reached a major milestone in 2022 when the first components were transferred to the final assembly line. The aircraft successfully completed extensive ground tests, including landing gear, wiring, canopy, electrical systems and fuel tests. HÜRJET performed its first engine run on January 30, 2023, followed by its maiden flight on April 25, 2023.
TUSAŞ is also building an infrastructure capable of delivering two HÜRJET aircraft per month. The Turkish Air Force is set to receive 16 units in the initial phase, with additional aircraft to be added in various configurations later. Designed as a single-engine, tandem-seat advanced trainer, HÜRJET can reach speeds up to Mach 1.4, operate at altitudes up to 45,000 feet and carry more than three tons of payload on seven hardpoints. These capabilities allow it to perform a wide range of missions, including lead-in fighter training, armed and unarmed air patrol duties and aerobatic demonstrations.
On the international front, HÜRJET is drawing significant interest, particularly from Spain. According to TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu, all technical and commercial issues with Spain have been resolved, and both sides are now counting down to the signing of the export agreement. Spain aims to procure 45 HÜRJET aircraft to replace its aging F-5 fleet under a program valued at approximately €3.12 billion, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.
With its expanding mission capabilities, promising test performance and growing export potential, HÜRJET continues to stand as a symbol of Turkey’s technological progress in aviation and defense.
