BREAKING NEWS
Moldova has taken delivery of its first two Piranha-3H Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) from Germany, marking a significant step in its defense modernization efforts. The delivery stems from a defense agreement signed in October 2021, under which Germany pledged to provide Moldova with a total of 19 Piranha-3H vehicles. These vehicles are expected to enhance Moldova’s national defense capabilities and strengthen its military infrastructure amid growing regional security concerns.
Developed by Swiss-based company MOWAG in 1996, the Piranha-3H is a versatile armored platform widely used by various armed forces. The vehicle is available in 6x6, 8x8, and 10x10 wheel configurations and can be fitted with engines delivering between 350 and 400 horsepower. This flexibility ensures strong performance in both rugged terrain and urban operations, making it suitable for diverse military missions.
One of the key advantages of the Piranha-3H is its advanced composite armor package, which provides enhanced protection for its crew and passengers. In terms of armament, the APC can be equipped with a range of weapon systems, including a remotely operated 12.7 mm machine gun, a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun, or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The vehicle typically accommodates a crew of two or three, along with eight to nine fully equipped soldiers.
The arrival of these vehicles is seen as a strategic development in light of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which has heightened security concerns in Eastern Europe. By integrating Piranha-3H APCs into its armed forces, Moldova aims to bolster its defensive capabilities and contribute to regional security and stability.
