BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has reached a critical milestone in its Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet procurement program, marking a significant step toward strengthening its air power capabilities. As part of the agreement covering 12 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft currently in the inventory of the Qatari Air Force, the first batch of jets is expected to arrive in Türkiye by the end of February. Turkish pilots have already begun training and familiarization flights on the aircraft, accelerating the operational transition process.
Alongside the delivery preparations, high-level military consultations have also taken place. A trilateral air force meeting was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on the sidelines of the DIMDEX Defense Exhibition. The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Turkish Air Force, General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, together with the commanders of the UK Royal Air Force and the Qatari Air Force. According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the Eurofighter procurement process and the delivery timeline were discussed in detail during the meeting.
Türkiye’s Eurofighter roadmap extends beyond the transfer of aircraft from Qatar. Previously, an agreement had been reached with the United Kingdom for the acquisition of 20 Eurofighter Typhoons. In addition, Türkiye plans to procure 12 Tranche 3-configured Eurofighters from the Royal Air Force of Oman. These aircraft are scheduled to undergo modernization in the UK before being delivered to the Turkish Air Force starting in 2028. With these additions, Türkiye aims to increase its second-hand Eurofighter fleet to 24 aircraft.
Plans for newly manufactured aircraft have also been finalized. A total of 20 Tranche 4 Eurofighter Typhoons will be produced by BAE Systems, with deliveries expected to begin in 2030 and conclude by 2032. Upon completion, Türkiye’s total Eurofighter inventory is projected to reach 44 aircraft. The agreement also includes an option for an additional 20 jets, which may be converted into a firm order depending on the operational satisfaction of the Turkish Air Force. This comprehensive procurement strategy is seen as a key element in maintaining Türkiye’s air superiority well into the next decade.
