The Turkish Naval Forces are set to commence DENİZKURDU-II/2025, a large-scale naval exercise covering all major seas surrounding Türkiye — the Black Sea, Marmara, Aegean, and Eastern Mediterranean. The drill, scheduled to begin on May 5, is part of the Turkish Armed Forces’ annual exercise program and aims to enhance joint operational readiness and coordination among multiple commands.
A press briefing held at the Naval Warfare Center Command in Gölcük featured Fleet Commander Admiral Kadir Yıldız and senior officers. Rear Admiral Rüştü Sezer, Head of Naval Operations, stated that the exercise’s main objectives are to assess command and control efficiency, test operational readiness, and improve the Navy’s ability to conduct joint missions under multi-threat conditions.
The exercise will feature 104 surface ships, 6 submarines, 7 unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), 52 aerial assets, as well as 1 SAT (Underwater Offense) and 2 SAS (Underwater Defense) teams. Supporting elements from the Turkish Land, Air, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard Commands will also participate, bringing the total to 120 vessels and 85 aircraft.
The operational phase begins with fleet deployment on May 5, followed by live-fire and readiness drills on May 6–9. On May 10–11, live missile firings will take place, including Atmaca anti-ship missile and SM-1 guided missile launches. The exercise will continue with multi-threat operations on May 12–14, and culminate on May 15 in Antalya with a Distinguished Visitors Day.
A 93-person Exercise Control Center has been established to oversee and evaluate the operation. The media component of the exercise will include both real and simulated press activities, integrating television and social media simulation as part of the scenario on the TAF’s local network.
Through DENİZKURDU-II/2025, the Turkish Navy aims to reinforce its “Blue Homeland” doctrine, showcasing its operational capability, maritime dominance, and commitment to protecting national and allied interests across the seas. Admiral Sezer concluded by honoring the memory of fallen heroes and emphasizing the Navy’s readiness to defend the homeland at any cost.
