BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s fifth-generation fighter jet program, KAAN, led by Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii, has reached another critical stage with the rollout of new prototypes that will be used in upcoming test phases. The emergence of these aircraft from the hangar signals tangible progress in the development, validation, and production processes of the ambitious national combat aircraft project.
President of Defense Industries Haluk Görgün visited the KAAN facilities to receive updates on the latest developments. He emphasized that witnessing the full-scale static test aircraft alongside the prototype that previously completed its maiden flight—and the second flight-test prototype preparing for its next mission—represents both a significant technical milestone and a symbol of the collective effort of thousands of engineers and technicians.
KAAN is designed to feature advanced fifth-generation capabilities, including low observability (stealth), internal weapon bays, an advanced avionics architecture, sensor fusion, enhanced situational awareness, and electronic warfare systems. The aircraft is expected to excel in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, combining high speed with multi-role flexibility. Following its maiden flight in 2024, development and production activities have continued simultaneously, while studies on manned-unmanned teaming concepts are also progressing in parallel.
With the completion of the static test prototype, the program has entered a more mature phase in which design, manufacturing, and verification processes are being conducted in an integrated manner. The phased development of a domestically produced engine remains one of the most strategic pillars of the project. KAAN is not only a fighter jet but also a long-term technological catalyst strengthening Türkiye’s defense and aerospace ecosystem. The local supply chain spans more than 20 cities, involving over 300 companies and more than 5,000 personnel. In the coming period, testing, qualification, and preparations for mass production are expected to accelerate as Türkiye advances toward full independence in defense technologies.
