BREAKING NEWS
UK-based defense giant BAE Systems has officially unveiled the new-generation CV9035 MkIV infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) developed for the Slovak Armed Forces. The rollout ceremony took place at the facilities of BAE Systems Hägglunds in Sweden, with the attendance of Swedish Minister of Defence Pål Jonson and Slovak Minister of Defence Robert Kaliňák, alongside senior military officials from both nations.
The unveiling follows a €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion) contract signed in December 2022 between BAE Systems and the Slovak Ministry of Defence for the delivery of 152 CV90 vehicles in multiple configurations. The first vehicle rolled off the production line in the second half of 2025 and is currently undergoing testing in Sweden. The programme represents one of Slovakia’s largest defence modernisation efforts in recent decades and significantly strengthens the country’s NATO commitments.
A key pillar of the agreement is strong industrial cooperation with Slovakia. More than 40% of the contract value involves local Slovak industry participation, with nearly 30 companies integrated into the supply chain by 2025. Companies such as Hriňovské Strojárne, MSM Land Systems, Konštrukta–Defense, SMS spol sro, STV Machinery, and ThyssenKrupp Rothe Erde Slovakia are contributing to production and subsystem integration. This collaboration aims to enhance security of supply, facilitate technology transfer, expand domestic industrial capacity, and create new employment opportunities within Slovakia.
The Slovak-configured CV9035 MkIV is equipped with a 35mm Bushmaster III cannon, an advanced fire control system, digital architecture, an active protection system, and an integrated anti-tank guided missile capability. The vehicle offers enhanced ballistic and mine protection, while its engine delivers up to 1,000 horsepower, providing superior mobility on the modern battlefield. Designed with a modular structure, the platform allows for future upgrades and capability enhancements in line with evolving operational requirements.
Currently, the CV90 platform is operated by eight European nations, with additional NATO and EU member states joining the user community. Slovakia’s participation in the CV90 User Club will enable shared operational experience, joint training activities, coordinated sustainment, and collaborative development of future system improvements.
