BREAKING NEWS
Saab has secured a significant defense contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds to supply its Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS) sight and fire-control solution for CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. The agreement, valued at around 314 million Swedish krona (approximately $34 million), includes deliveries scheduled to take place in 2029 and 2030. The contract further strengthens the long-standing industrial partnership between Saab and BAE Systems Hägglunds in the field of land combat systems.
The UTAAS system is already in operational service on CV90 vehicles used by Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands. In addition, Denmark, Estonia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia have selected UTAAS for their upcoming or modernized CV90 fleets. This widespread adoption highlights both the growing global demand for the CV90 platform and the proven performance of Saab’s fire-control technology on the modern battlefield.
Commenting on the agreement, Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab’s Surveillance business area, noted that the increasing international interest in the CV90 reflects its combat-proven capabilities and reliability. He emphasized that Saab’s long-term cooperation with BAE Systems Hägglunds has enabled the company to expand its production capacity for UTAAS in order to meet rising customer demand.
The UTAAS provides high-precision engagement against a broad range of ground targets while also being capable of engaging helicopters and other low-flying aerial threats. Its modular architecture allows for different performance levels and future upgrades. The system features an independent line of sight, advanced laser rangefinding, and a fire-control computer that automatically adjusts weapon parameters. Additionally, the stabilized gun system enables accurate firing while the vehicle is moving, supporting engagement ranges of up to 5,000 meters and air-target engagement up to 2,000 meters.
