BREAKING NEWS
One of Türkiye’s major armored vehicle manufacturers, FNSS, is preparing to present its latest capabilities at SAHA 2026, where it will display vehicles and systems recently introduced into the inventories of security forces together with newly added features. Among the most striking highlights will be the ALKA-KAPLAN Hybrid Directed Energy Weapon System (DEWS) Platform, developed through the cooperation of ROKETSAN and FNSS.
The ALKA-KAPLAN Hybrid platform was first introduced in 2025 and combines ROKETSAN’s ALKA Directed Energy Weapon System with FNSS’s KAPLAN Hybrid carrier platform. The resulting system is designed to counter fixed-wing and rotary-wing mini/micro unmanned aerial vehicles as well as loitering munitions. By mounting a directed energy capability on a mobile armored hybrid platform, the system offers a maneuverable and self-powered counter-UAS solution suited to modern battlefield requirements.
One of the most important aspects of the system is that it is not based solely on laser power. ALKA is designed as a two-layer very short-range hybrid air defense system that combines electromagnetic jamming and laser destruction against asymmetric threats. This means a target can first be disrupted electronically and, if necessary, physically neutralized by laser. In this respect, ALKA-KAPLAN presents a potentially faster and more cost-effective alternative to conventional kinetic counter-drone systems, especially against small UAVs and loitering munitions.
Another key feature is the way the platform manages energy. The diesel generator unit integrated by FNSS is designed not only to support the mobility of the vehicle, but also to provide the high-voltage electrical power required by advanced systems such as ALKA. This allows the platform to sustain both mobility and weapon performance without the need for an additional external energy module. It is this hybrid and self-sustaining architecture that gives ALKA-KAPLAN a distinctive place among mobile directed energy solutions.
